Friday Night Home Games

Thanks to my friend Chad Kelly for writing this guest post.

Friday night home games are the most enjoyable occasions for me. I get to watch the Florida Marlins with my father on satellite TV, and we spend quality time together. Between my own family and my father's job, there's not much time for us to catch up and talk baseball together. My earliest baseball memories were during the earliest years of the franchise. When we go out, my little brothers aren’t mad though because they get to watch the direct tv family package with all of their favorite shows. Major League Baseball awarded Miami with the Marlins in 1993, while Denver was given the Colorado Rockies. I must have gone to 100 home games with my dad those first few seasons. The highlight for us was the Marlins winning the World Series in 1997, because it was faster than any expansion team had previously won it. It wouldn't last though, because Wayne Huizenga would order the Marlins to undergo a "fire sale" where the team had to let its biggest stars leave via free agency or the trade market. I went onto law school and would eventually start my own family. Although I would still talk with my dad, those occasions happened less often than they previously did until my dad suffered a heart attack. I realized how much I took him for granted, so we started our Friday night routine, and things have been much better between us. Hopefully it continues until the Marlins win another World Series someday.
