Nickelodeon has quality viewing for children. My favorite show for my kids is Dora The Explorer. This show has several main characters; Dora is a little Spanish girl who has a monkey friend named Boots. Together they have adventures, sometimes they are looking for a lost toy, helping a friend or fixing something that is broken. Dora has help from her backpack and her map. Dora's map shows them the way to get where they need to go. Her backpack has items that are needed for her journey.
I prefer for my children to watch Dora, she has my kids repeat the journey for her. This helps my three year old to listen and understand what they intend to do. Dora will ask which tool or item she needs from her backpack and my son will tell her. This helps him to understand how things work, such as when Dora needs sticky tape to fix a hot air balloon. My child will understand that the sticky tape fixed Dora's balloon. Dora and Boots sing songs and my children will sing with them. I even hear them singing the songs later on.
We watch Dora The Explorer on our satellite TV, sometimes I even record it on my DVR from http://www.directstartv.com/directv_programming/directv_seasonal_sports.html for my children, that way if there isn't anything appropriate on I can let them watch Dora.
