Thanks for the post from Al Mills
This winter, my family has vowed to cut down our heating costs as much as possible, because our bills last year were truly outrageous. However, in the area we live in near the Canadian border, it's difficult to simply avoid turning on the heater until late in the season as it gets cool very quickly. Instead, we'll be taking some time this weekend to try to prepare our house for winter.
We're planning to purchase some additional insulation to install, as this should greatly help us to keep in the heat. We'll also be taking a look at our furnace and water heater, in order to make sure that they are running properly and are cleaned out. As they can run more slowly if they are clogged up or dirty from last season, we'll also give them a thorough cleaning. Finally, we'll test out our backup generator and make sure it's in working order. Last year, we had a huge storm where the power went out for three days, and so we found out that our generator wasn't working the hard way!
After we finish getting our house ready for winter, we're planning a family night to spend some time together. We'll cook a big meal, sit down together to watch some DIRECTSTARTV, and enjoy making Christmas plans while we wait for winter's arrival.
