Rainwater Collection

Did you know that here in Utah, it used to be illegal to collect rainwater? Yup, rainwater tanks and stainless steel barrels were useless at that time. It sounds crazy but that's what the law says. But all of that changed when Senate Bill 32 was approved last year. It gave the people the right to collect rainwater without obtaining a water right from the Division of Water Rights. But you need to register on their web page first in order to do so. But keep in mind that storage is limited to one underground 2500 gallon container or two above ground 100 gallon containers. And the collection and use are limited to the same parcel of land owned or leased by the rainwater collector.
