Whenever I am talking to someone about a new house that they are moving into it seems that the quality of the flooring always comes up. Sometimes I hear them say, "Oh, I just love this house it has beautiful wood floors," or "This house is great but we need some new floors." I don't usually hear something in the middle. If think that is because flooring is one of those parts of the house that if you don't do it right then it will fall apart or be unsightly before too long. If a floor isn't even or the foundation underneath the floor has some defect then it will show eventually.
Wood is great for floors but it can get really expensive to install and the care for them is more than the other options. If a wood floor goes bad though it is the easiest to fix or remove. Tile on the other hand is very long lasting and quite beautiful. It is good in climates that would be very hard on wood, like in a tropical climate, but they are harder to install and quite expensive as well. Also, tile removal can be very difficult, unless you have a very powerful tool, and time consuming. Concrete is another option that, until recently, many people would never choose. The problem before was that concrete was not a very attractive option compared to tile or wood, but in recent years that is changing dramatically. The new types of concrete and installation techniques in quickly make concrete a very economical and beautiful option for flooring inside and outside people's homes. Concrete is long lasting and easier to install and maintain than the other options. Even if you have an old concrete floor, if it was installed well you could just get a floor grinder and then put a new surface on it, through the process of concrete polishing and you could have a lovely new floor for very little money to enjoy for years to come.
